Something a bit different today!

Black Cherry Bakewell Overnight Oats… a colourful and healthy breakfast reworking of a traditional baked classic!

Our social media sites this morning feature shots of our delicious soft and creamy Nutella cupcakes, freshly baked in Letchworth Garden City (links to Instagram and facebook at the top of the page), but as it’s still only the start of 2017 we thought you might like to see another nifty idea we’ve come up with to help you through the New Year dessert cravings – and give you a deliciously decadent breakfast treat as well!

Our cupcaker, Emma, developed this particular oat pot when a guest with a passion for cherry bakewells came to stay!

Normally she would have had some of the baked variety to hand, but most things that can be baked can also be oated, so she surprised her guest with this much healthier version for breakfast! Needless to say it got the thumbs up and it’s now one of her favourite oat pots, both in terms of taste and appearance.

Here’s what you’ll need…


1 x Black Cherry Yoghurt per person – you can decide whether you want low fat or extra creamy!

A handful of porridge oats per person

Flaked almonds

Pitted and diced black cherries (keep a couple back for decoration)

A dash (between ½ and 1 teaspoonful depending on taste) of almond essence

It couldn’t be easier to make!  Put the yoghurt, oats, fresh pitted and diced black cherries (except for the decoration ones) and the dash of almond essence in a bowl and stir together well.  You should get a beautifully deep cherry pink colour developing from both the yoghurt and the fresh cherry juice.  Then simply spoon into your serving bowl – we used a couple of small juice glasses – and leave in the fridge overnight, so that the oats become deliciously soft and the flavours of fresh black cherry and almond permeate the mixture!

In the morning just sprinkle with a few flaked almonds and add a further black cherry for garnish, grab a spoon and wonder why you didn’t go on a fresh fruit and healthy eating kick sooner!
